52 Week Challenge (NL) - Week 8 Paint the Light {Orange County New York Photographer}

The theme for this week is paint the light.  This was certainly out of my element and it took a bit of trial and error, but I was finally able to capture the image that I had envisioned.

I was really intimidated by this theme because taking pictures in the dark isn't something that I do everyday.  I spent some time online and found a tutorial that gave me a starting point.  There are some amazing images out there and it is certainly a craft to get the perfect light and technique.  I set my camera based on the tutorial and then I spent 20 minutes adjusting from there to find the perfect camera settings for my set up.  It was frustrating to not get the image on my camera that I had envisioned it to be right off the start. After some time, I finally was able to play with it and get some images that I thought worked well for the theme.

Here is a before of the glow sticks motionless and the after with "painting".

I thought it may be fun to move the sticks up out of the glass.

I also did a shot from above.  In the first image I was moving a glow stick around the stationary sticks, in the second I moved all of the glow sticks in the glass

Overall this was a great way to step out of my box and try something new.

What are your thoughts on images where the light is painted?
